“So, meow will I be able to play Steam games on my TV more easily?”

Beginning this Monday (23 September,) Valve will unveiling three announcements pertaining to their efforts to get Steam into the living room for more users. A teaser site has been launched, complete with countdown, eerie image of an expanding universe and a couple of clues as to the nature of the forthcoming reveals.

This relates to what Gabe Newell was talking about a couple of days ago and may (or may not) be leading up to an actual sighting of the fabled ‘Steam Box’ device. Valve’s Doug Lombardi adds in an email that these three announcements will be about “the steps we’re taking to make Steam more accessible on televisions and in the living room.” If that means a magical, low-cost device that allows me to channel the power of my PC and play games on the TV without having to faff about moving my tower or dicking about with cables, then I’m all in favour.

It sounds like Valve wants users to be involved too, as the teaser site notes “Soon, we’ll be adding you to our design process, so that you can help us shape the future of Steam.” Probably some sort of beta-testing process in the works, then.
