Football Manager 2014 - 07

In the SHOCK NEWS of the day, Sports Interactive and Sega have announced that Football Manager 2013 will be getting a sequel: Football Manager 2014.

Football Manager 2014 will apparently have over 1,000 improvements and enhancements, which seems like a very nebulous way of describing things because each one of those could range from “completely redid this entire section of the game” to “extra option on this menu.” Still, it’s apparently the most “compelling and realistic to date”, and is “the most feature-packed and technically advanced release in the series’ history.” Which is good. You’d hate it if it was less technically advanced than last year’s one.

Here’s a list of some of those new features, according to the press release:

  • An improved 3D match engine
  • A tactical overhaul
  • More realistic transfers and contracts
  • More sophisticated board interaction
  • More complex interaction between staff, players, and rival managers
  • A revamped news system
  • An enhanced user interface
  • Evolution for Classic mode
  • Additional community features
  • Extensive tech improvements

Slightly more specifically, this version of Football Manager 2014 will also feature cloud saving and full support for Linux. There’ll also be a Challenge Editor letting you create your own challenges, and full Steam Workshop support for those of you who want to customise and share content.

If you fancy getting in on this a bit early, those who pre-order will apparently get access to a beta version a couple of weeks before the game’s retail release, with careers started in this beta able to continue in the full version. But that would involve paying money for a game that isn’t out, which is oh-so-regularly a bad idea.

Football Manager 2014 is due out before Christmas 2013. Seven billion screenshots of menus follow.

FM2013 was a bit of a disaster on launch, so I’m planning to wait until a nice sale this year after it’s seen a few patches.

At first glance, the tactics changes look really really good. It seems they’ve replaced the arcane system of sliders with a bunch of straightforward choices, which manages to be both simpler and more realistic.

They always claim to have improved the 3D match engine, but it still suffers from the basic animation synchronization problem where players often look like they’re floating or skating on the pitch. If they’d just fix that one thing the game would look vastly better. We’ll see when they release videos.

Yeah right, another 1000 enhancements, they said that when they launched FM 2013 and we all saw that it was the worse edition of FM from their entire history. When I bought FM 2013 I felt myself robbed of 50 euros so this time I will not throw myself to buy this game , I will wait for a few months to gather opinions about it. If FM 2014 will have the same problems like his predecessor then I will not even bother to read an article about FM no to mention about buying it.
I am interested in seeing a good database , with a lot of young players with a potential ability over 170 as I once enjoyed in the 2005, 2006 or 2007 edition. Those were the real days of FM. Lucas Digne was bought with 15 mil. euros by PSG from LOSC Lille and in the game he was quoted very low. There are also a lot of players like him, very talented but with a very low potential ability, so please do something regarding the database.
These latest editions are very commercial and there’s no more fun in discovering talented players. In a way this it was the essence of this game, but they are trying now to make this game to look more like FIFA.
If SI Games will launch an edition like FM 2013 then I am sure that they already signed their petition to \death\, out of business. I read many articles posted by fans from all over the world and many of them said that FM 2013 could be the last game they bought…
