Dragon Age Keep

Look over there, it’s the Dragon Age Keep.

Today, BioWare has announced The Dragon Age Keep, a handy solution to all those save import and choice woes that may have affected people playing their games in the past. In effect, the Keep will allow you to tweak the ‘state of the world’ at the beginning of Dragon Age: Inquisition, based on what (and who) you did in previous Dragon Age titles. It’ll dispense with the Mass Effect-style comic book catch-ups, and give players greater scope for customising the world based on their choices.

The benefits to this are pretty obvious. If you’ve lost a saved game from prior titles, you’ll still be able to set up the world as you desire (as long as you can remember what you did in the other games, anyway.) Or maybe you played the first couple on console, but are now switching to PC. No problem; again, just set the world up based on the choices you made.

You could also set up easy “what if?” type scenarios, without having to play right through the two earlier games to set up the specific circumstances you require. Instead, just make those choices at The Keep and then import the world-state to Inquisition.

What if you want to just do it the old-fashioned way and import a saved game file straight into Dragon Age: Inquisition? According to BioWare: “We are continuing to investigate ways in which save files from previous games could be used to populate the initial world state of the Dragon Age Keep. We’ll provide more information on this in the months to come.”

You can read more about the system at this BioWare blog post from executive producer Mark Darrah, or at IGN who had the news first.
