Legal troubles, meet my sword: Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition announced
Beamdog have announced that Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition will be hitting the PC and Mac on 15 November.
Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition has been up in the air for quite some time. Legal troubles surrounding the Enhanced Editions of the Baldur’s Gate games (which, we eventually learned, were down to Atari) left the team feeling “demoralised.” At the time, Beamdog’s Trent Oster said that the prognosis of resuming work on Baldur’s Gate was “mixed”, with Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition “on indefinite hold.”
Presumably, then, the contractual disputes have been sorted out, and the team is all fired up again. The official site is now up and live, revealing that the game will cost $24.99, will be hitting PC and Mac on 15 November with iOS and Android versions to follow, and… oh. You’re interested in the new gubbins, aren’t you?
Well then. There are four new additional party members – the three from Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, plus “a mysterious thief” – as well as The Black Pits 2: Gladiators of Thay, another combat-focused module forcing you to “dodge traps and battle for your life against Demi-Liches, Mind Flayers, and Githyanki.” Multiplayer is promised to be much easier to access, and the game will have the same graphical improvements (widescreen resolutions, remastered area art, interface improvements etc.) as Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition.
And, much like Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition will include the game’s expansion – in this case, Throne of Bhaal.
In short: Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition. 15 November. $24.99. Some new stuff. Available for pre-order from Beamdog here. Pretty wallpaper on the official forums here. (Well, I say pretty, but then… beauty is in the eye of the beholder.)
