Should rune even better: RuneScape 3 to launch in late July3 Jul 2013
The free-to-play browser MMO RuneScape remains awfully popular among some, which is presumably why Jagex continue to develop and support the title. Today, they’ve announced that a significant update to the game will take place on 22 July.
RuneScape 3 will get the game running on HTML 5, which means no more need for plug-ins like Java or other third-party software. Jagex also claims this will mean improvements to the title’s visuals, such as better draw distances, an upgraded camera system and better graphics all round. The team will be adding “Seasonal high scores” too, so you can compete on weekly and monthly leaderboards to see who … scaped the most runes? I don’t know.
In terms of the game’s universe, this update will see the world of Gielinor entering its sixth age. During this period, the old gods of RuneScape will return to re-exert their authority. Sounds like a theocratic nightmare waiting to happen. There’s also word that the game’s first community-focused “world event,” The Battle for Lumbridge, will be taking place shortly after launch.
“We’re thrilled to be able to confirm the 22 July launch date for the most significant update in the game’s history,” says RuneScape executive producer Phil Mansell, who may just have a slight vested interest in this venture.Related to this story
