Appeal S.A., the Belgian team that originally developed Outcast, have apparently managed to buy the IP for the game from Atari.

No, this has nothing to do with André 3000 or Big Boi. Outcast was an open-world action-adventure from the late 90s, when you could give a videogame hero Geordi La Forge sunglasses and call him “Cutter Slade” without people sniggering too much. It was really, really good, but didn’t sell particularly well.

Apparently, Appeal S.A. have plans to “revive” the franchise. Your guess is as good as mine as to whether this’ll mean an HD remake or a sequel, but whatever their plans, I fear we won’t be seeing more voxel graphics.

The original is available on GOG.com, and – as GOG’s summer sale is still on for another few days – you can pick it up for a song.
