Last week we mentioned that Eric would be winging his way down to Blizzard in Irvine to get the latest updates from the development team working on Diablo 3.

Over on Diablo: IncGamers, a full report of the trip is online discussing upcoming plans for the game and future changes that may be happening. Speculation was rife as to the timing of the Diablo 3 expansion due to the fact the development team revealed there would be no patches coming to the game before BlizzCon in November. This leads us to believe that there could be some kind of expansion announcement at this year’s event.

With the game having been out just over a year, Blizzard now appear to be more open to certain game features such as modding which originally off the table. The idea of ladders was also brought up and again it sounds like something they are still discussing. They were quite interested in how the IncGamers Diablo3ladders.com site operated, and earlier this year we heard ladders for the game being mentioned from an inside source.

Fans of the game who were expecting sweeping changes this year will have to sit tight because is sounds like there’s a lot of ideas being passed around the development team right now based on feedback coming in from players, and these will take time to investigate.

Blizzard pushed out more patches than they had planned for in the first year release which meant their development timeline went out the window. Rest assured though, Blizzard want to get this Diablo up to the standards fans of the series expect. We’ll have to wait and see what happens in November when the next patch is released and how much feedback has been taken onboard.

Diablo 3 players should enjoy the game in its current form over this summer because changes will be coming, and despite this patch update drought, Blizzard appear to be fully behind with the Diablo franchise.

You can read the full lengthy in-depth report over on Diablo: IncGamers now and there’s also a Diablo Podcast special covering the trip now online.

I’ve been listening to their podcast about the Blizz HQ visit. Good to know the CMs are in-tune with the community and the development team is opening up. IncGamers might get an interview from Wyatt “soon” according to Lyria, so he can expand on what D3 team has planned for the future.

I think they really need to show the community what they’re doing and results of the tests when they say they’ve talked about feature X or game change Y, afterall involving the fans should make the process quicker and aid in suggestions.

“Blizzard appear to be fully behind WITH the Diablo franchise” Sounds about right.
