The Bureau: XCOM Declassified

If you haven’t already been burned by pre-ordering all sorts of high-profile games that turned out to be rubbish, you might be interested to know that pre-orders for The Bureau: Declassified are now open, complete with tiered rewards.

Both Steam and Greenmangaming are currently offering roughly the same deal: buy The Bureau, get 10% off. On Greenmangaming that equates to around £29.28 (allowing for currency conversion), while on Steam it’s a slightly lower £26.99.

That’s not all, though, as the more people that pre-order, the more bonus goodies you get. The first reward tier, which has already been unlocked, will net you the game’s Codebreakers DLC mission – tasking you with finding out what happened to a facility set up to decode enemy transmissions which has just gone silent – for free.

The second reward tier will add a free copy of the rather good Spec Ops: The Line, and the third reward tier throws in the XCOM Ultimate Bundle, containing XCOM Enemy Unknown, the Elite Soldier Pack, the Slingshot Pack, and a bunch of classic X-COM titles (yes, that’s X-COM with a hyphen). Bizarrely, Greenmangaming’s classic pack only seems to include UFO Defense, Terror from the Deep, Apocalypse, and Enforcer, while Steam gives you all of those and Interceptor. Unsure if that’s a mistake or not.

Personally, I’d suggest waiting around to see if the game’s any good, but I will concede that the pack of other XCOM games is pretty good value if you don’t already have any of them, since it currently retails for £42.99 on Steam. That’ll only happen if enough people pre-order, though.

is out August 20th in the US, and 23rd of August in Europe. If you’re a Europe denizen, this likely means you can wait for reviews to pop up and still get in on this pre-order deal before the game is released in our territory.
