Indie Game: The Movie

Apparently, it’s not just games getting DLC these days. Movies about games aren’t safe either.

I say this because the excellent Indie Game: The Movie has announced the 24 July release of a Special Edition version, costing $14.99 and boasting a 100-minute short film anthology, epilogues and tales of what happened after the close of the movie, stories about more game creators, and a Team Meat commentary.

In what way is this DLC? Well, if you already have the film, then you can upgrade to the Special Edition for a mere $4.99. Sounds like DLC to me.

Alternatively, you can plump for the limited editions on disk, in which case you also get a poster, a notebook, and a laptop sticker. These versions are truly limited (there are only 3,000 DVD and 3,000 Blu-Ray editions being made) and, as such, they’re also signed by the directors. Pre-ordering the DVD version will set you back $59.99 while the Blu-Ray version will set you back $69.99, but once they’ve been released, those prices will change to $69.99 and $89.99 respectively.

Indie Game: The Movie is a wonderful little documentary charting the trials and tribulations of three sets of indie game developers as they struggle to get their games - Super Meat BoyFez, and Braid – finished and released, while dealing with all sorts of problems and crises. Happily, it’s currently in the Steam sale for a mere £2.09, and is also part of this week’s Humble Weekly Sale. If you haven’t seen it, you’ve got no excuse now.
