Dragon Commander

Larian’s Divinity: Dragon Commander is flapping its leathery wings ever-closer to release, although still has a few issues to tweak if this behind the scenes video is anything to go by.

Join Swen Vincke as he chats to various members of the development team about their roles on the strategy-RTS combo title, and laments the Belgian weather. It’s a fairly lengthy video at 13 minutes long, but it also feels a lot more genuine than a lot of the promotional rubbish that gets put out there.

If you’re interested in reading more about Divinity: Dragon Commander’s pre-release activities, Vincke’s blog has some very interesting thoughts about the decision to self-publish the game and what to do with contrasting feedback from journalists.

Assuming the team doesn’t opt for some late, major design changes, the game is (probably) on course to be released later this summer.

Looks interesting, never heard about it.

Its an RTS that you control a dragon, similar to Sacrifice? And you fly around building things like Magic Carpet?

A game like that done right would be my dream come true since I believe Magic Carpet and Sacrifice are the most underrated games ever.

correction: you dont control a dragon in sacrifice, but its an RTS game played in third-person-perspective, thats what I meant! Damn we could have an edit button on the comments :/

From what I know of the game, you have an overworld strategy map bit (kind of like a Paradox game,) on which you recruit/build units. Then when you go into battle, you control those units in an RTS fashion – but you can also direct control a dragon (in this fantasy universe some of the knights can turn into dragons, it’s a thing) to help your guys out.

Oh, and there are a bunch of RPG bits too, like trying to hook up with a skeleton princess. She actually is a skeleton, that’s not some sort of sick joke about eating disorders.

Overall, it looks pretty damn interesting. I liked Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga a whole lot, by the same studio.

Thanks for the answer, it looks amazing, I wish I could see the videos on the official site but I cant right now.

It looks a bit from what I expected, really looking forward to this title now.

Magic carpet was pretty cool. Spent hours on it. Hope Divinity Dragon Commander will be just as good.
