Here’s my own concise history of piracy: some dude figured out that merchant ships were kind of easy to rob and started doing so. Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag sees things in a slightly more expansive light, and demonstrates as such in this new trailer.

Piracy was about FREEDOM, you see. The Freedom to murder and betray each other; hoorah! If you managed to dodge that, though, you could probably become quite an important pirate captain fellow and see the known world in your favourite ship. Ports, hidden cities, islands and the grand old ocean will be your playground come November.
