We asked and you answered. The quiz format makes its triumphant return on this week’s podcast, as the panel is tested on their knowledge of Ubisoft pre-order special editions in honour of Watch Dogs. Before that, the team goes frame-by-frame through the latest GTA V trailer, looking for tiny clues that … ok, that’s a lie, we just take the piss out of it.

There’s news too of an ingenious anti-piracy scheme, hatched by the developers of Game Dev Tycoon.

This week, Tim has had the misfortune of playing through Star Trek with serious toothache. Paul has revisited Marvel Heroes before its open beta weekend, while Peter has been taking on the Blood Dragons of Far Cry 3’s most unlikely spin-off game.

While you’re bringing back old features, what the podcast really needs is someone spelling out INCGAMERS.COM with the phonetic alphabet in every episode.

Yeah game dev tycoon idea was funny. Great episode, thanks guys. Would like to hear Nasarius’s comment as it sounds like an old feature.

I think the trouble these days is releasing a game to get desperately needed funds and labeling the game ‘beta’. Quite cheeky as a slap in the face to gamers and their cash. POE does this but handled it quite well, sounds like Star Trek didn’t quite make POE’s kind of reputation. Marvel Heroes loot dropping mechanic sounds bad, should be like D3.

Just played the demo of Game Dev Tycoon, and it’s very definitely…I won’t say “clone”, but it’s more like an unauthorized sequel to Game Dev Story, with a few ideas from other Kairosoft games thrown in – the tech research is similar to Grand Prix Story, for example.

Seems like it’d be worth the price, but I prefer my management sims to be a little more substantial and challenging.

nasarius: Yeeeeah, I fully agree, having played the Game Dev Tycoon demo since we recorded this ‘cast. It is *very* similar to Game Dev Story (the only Kairosoft game I’ve played) – so similar that I can absolutely understand where the people calling it a “clone” are coming from. I think you’ve phrased it best by calling it an unauthorised sequel, honestly; judging by the demo, it feels more like an expanded homage than a cheeky rip-off.

I suspect I’ll end up buying it at some point anyway. Game Dev Story was great for keeping me vaguely occupied when I was doing just about anything else, and this certainly seems to have the same enjoyable little hooks.
