Sim City amazon

More bad news for EA and Maxis this evening, Amazon in the US  has now pulled Sim City from sale following complaints from Amazon customers.

When a game has problems at launch, one of the first places for customers to go is Amazon. Customers then start firing in negative reviews of the game. Review comments from customers so far include:

How would you feel if you waited for the new Corvette to come out, preordered one, and when you try to drive it home with its massive V8 engine the dashboard tells you, “Gas Pump not connected, aborting.”?

Guess what? If you’d love to experience the nonstop thrills and excitement of SimCity, then please remove $60 from your bank and promptly pay someone to kick you repeatedly in the friggin’ mouth.

The majority of my experience has been watching a Server is Busy error and waiting for a 20 minute timer to count down to 0. Once it does, I get a network server error and it resets.

And so it goes on.

Amazon must be highly concerned about the experiences of customers to pull Sim City and it’s not good for EA or Maxis, this one of their flagship PC releases this year.

Sim City fans are not happy, the petition Peter posted an article about this evening highlights gamer’s concerns perfectly with the on-line only requirement  being viewed as badly implemented DRM. EA and Maxis have always disputed that Sim City’s online only requirements have anything to do with DRM, it was about the need to always have your city connected to other player’s cities. The game was designed that way from the get-gop according to Maxis’ Ocean Quigley who spoke to us last week.

With the EU release taking place in an hour, it will be interesting to see how affected EU gamers will be by the connectivity and server problems that have plagued US gamers this week.

Like buying a corvette (presumably not for $60) and getting kicked in the nuts. Drama much?
