Destiny

We’re not surprised that Bungie revealed Destiny for next-gen consoles as a priority overlooking the PC. However, a PC version should not be ruled according to Bungie.

Yesterday was the big reveal day for the new title that’s going to keep Bungie busy for a few years to come, and this is how they describe it.

Everything changed with the arrival of the Traveler. It sparked a Golden Age when our civilization spanned our solar system, but it didn’t last. Something hit us, knocked us down. The survivors built a city beneath the Traveler, and have begun to explore our old worlds, only to find them filled with deadly foes.

You are a Guardian of the last safe city on Earth, able to wield incredible power. Defend the City. Defeat our enemies. Reclaim all that we have lost.

Key features:

  • The next evolution of entertainment – an incredible story set within a newly-imagined, always-connected universe filled with action and adventure.
  • Create your character, forge your legend by defeating powerful foes, and earn unique and customized weapons, gear and vehicles.
  • Unprecedented variety of FPS gameplay that redefines the genre breaks traditional conventions of story, cooperative and competitive multiplayer modes, combined with public and social activities.

“Destiny is the game that we’ve been dreaming of building for years.  We couldn’t be more pleased about our extraordinary collaboration with Activision.  We finally have the right partner, team and technology to bring the experience to millions of players worldwide,” said Harold Ryan, Bungie president.  “Destiny will draw players into a world filled with mystery, action, and adventure, but most importantly, Destiny is more than a disc in a drive, it is a living social universe filled with other players.”

Bungie COO Pete Parsons reminded us not to rule out a PC version of the game, he told the Examiner, “We would absolutely love to be on the PC. If you talk to the people upstairs, we play it on all platforms. So, stay tuned.”

No PC version as been confirmed, it’s just unlikely to appear at the same time as the console version. With Activision pumping the cash into the project, they’ll be looking to squeeze as much from the new franchise as possible so PC won’t be of the table.

With the game featuring open world elements and requiring an always-on connection, even in single player, the game does sound like it would fit rather well on the PC. However, it’s Bungie, and consoles are always the priority so let’s not forget that.

The reveal brings a vidoc from the team to explain more about the game that you’ll unlikely to be playing at launch along with the the first shots and concept art.
