XCOM: Enemy Unknown (7)

The Game Developers Conference will take place from 27 March in its usual haunt of San Francisco, during which the 13th annual Game Developers Choice (GDC) award winners will be revealed. Today, the nominees in various categories have been announced, with a few of our preferred PC titles of 2012 cropping up in multiple spots.

It’s actually a PS3-exclusive title (Journey) that has most nominations (six,) but Dishonored isn’t far behind with four. Arkane’s stealth-n-stabbing fest is up for Game of the Year, Best Game Design, Best Narrative and Best Visual Arts.

Telltale’s social experiment in making people cry, The Walking Dead is up for three awards: Game of the Year, Best Downloadable Game and Best Narrative. And Firaxis’ impressive getting-soldiers-you’ve-named-after-family-pets-killed simulator XCOM: Enemy Unknown (pictured above) is in the running for Game of the Year and Best Game Design.

Here’s the full field for Game of the Year:

  • Dishonored (Arkane Studios/Bethesda Softworks)
  • The Walking Dead (Telltale Games)
  • Mass Effect 3 (BioWare/Electronic Arts)
  • XCOM: Enemy Unknown (Firaxis Games/2K Games)
  • Journey (Thatgamecompany/Sony Computer Entertainment)

You can have a read of the rest of the categories and nominees on the GDC site.
