IO Interactive “looking at” patch for Hitman Absolution’s disguise system

A post from an IO Interactive community manager in Eidos’ Hitman: Absolution forums confirms that the developers are considering changes to the way the game handles disguises; specifically, the range at which enemies can detect Agent 47 when he’s dressed like one of them.

“We are currently looking at how to tweak the detection system with disguises,” the post reads.

The disguise system in Absolution has caused some frustration in Hitman fans and casual players alike. As things currently stand, a policeman is able to identify you as a bogus cop (for example) from halfway across a room. It places a heavy emphasis on stealth play, but some players feel this undermines the purposes of disguises as a whole.

It also leads to some strange situations, such as every single street vender in Chinatown knowing one another, and being absolutely sure you are not one of them (when dressed in this manner).

Hitman: Absolution’s checkpoint system has also come under some scrutiny, but a post by the same community manager suggests that this will not be altered. When asked if “the bonkers save/checkpoint system” would be receiving similar tweaks, the IO representative replied, “Yeah, that’s not going to happen. The checkpoint system was never meant to be a save system but, arguably, the communication of what it actually does could probably have been better.”

  • Well then why not explain what the hell this “checkpoint” system is supposed to be?

  • So they are going to fix the game after everyone has already finished it? eat shit.

  • How stupid when you use outfit with mask and still be detected

  • I’d have no gripe if they made the easy difficulty easier (that’s what it’s there for, to make it more accessible) but everything makes sense as it stands now. The levels were designed with specific AI characteristics in mind and the game is going to be essentially broken if you alter that now.

Honestly I didn’t even think it was that difficult to finish. Difficult to get a good score perhaps, but not to play all the way through and see the ending.

To get more specific, you can already walk right past guards while disguised as a guard if you have enough power in your instinct meter. If you can just slap on the outfit that a thousand people in the level are wearing and walk through unchallenged, what’s the point in even having the instinct meter?

Though I will concede that every chef in the Chinatown New Year level knowing one another was nothing short of slapstick comedy, the level can still be finished quite easily in the chef disguise. If the public is truly demanding this patch, then “the public is an ass.”

    • actually the system is broken … If u wear a mask that should get you through anything without doing something stupid, how every guard knows one another is pretty dumb .. even when wearing a mask that is not realistic at all.. if ur going to make a realistic stealth game than masks should KEEP YOU from being spotted DUH!!

      • Thank you, unwashed masses.

The change you describe would ruin multiple levels. It may be more realistic, but would not make it a better game. It would allow you to bypass entire levels with virtually no resistance. If you ate only capable of stealing disguises from guards and henchmen then you need to practice more.
