Fireplace frolics: Little Inferno releases this weekend

I’m not going to pretend I know exactly what Little Inferno is about. Based on the trailer (and prior footage) it appears to be about burning things, buying more things to burn, doing so, then maybe feeling sorta bad about it. It’s winter outside, so people (children, in this case) are being encouraged to burn stuff in order to stave off the cold.

Except there’s clearly more to the story than that. How come you’re burning old toys? Why do those toys seem somewhat … alive? Is this a loss of innocence theme, or a tilt at the wastefulness of consumerism? I have no idea. Maybe none of those things.

You’ll be able to find out for sure when the game launches on 18 November, priced at $15 USD. If you pick it up on Steam before that date, there’s a 10% discount and instant access to the current beta version. Steam also reckons the release date is 19 November, so make of that what you will.

To my mind it looks similar to a parody of the consumer (Alla Kraftwerk’s ‘Zombie Nation’) with an incidental soundtrack akin to early Raymond Scott.

Advertising as an art at its finest.

The only sad thing is that art reflects life…
