The Wii U edition of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be released digitally at the same time it hits retail. This, of course, is not all that special nowadays–the same is happening more and more frequently with games on the PlayStation 3.

What is special, is that the digital edition will be cheaper than the boxed copy.

In Japanese stores the game will set you back 6,980 yen, the digital version (via the Wii U eShop) will cost 6,280 yen. The likes of Fifa 13 and Medal of Honor: Warfighter have recently been released simultaneously across physical and digital realms on PS3, albeit with the digital copy costing up to £20 more than the physical one. Presumably, in some bid to keep high-street retailers happy.

However, while the whole simultaneous thing might sound good, there’s a slight drawback… the digital Wii U copy of Tekken Tag Tournament 2 weighs in at 16.7GB which, anyone that has attempted to download a big PC game can attest, means it will probably be quicker to go out and buy the retail copy than wait for it to download.
