Total War: Shogun 2 gets ‘Assembly Kit’ and full Steam Workshop support

As well as holding a Steam sale event for the series, Creative Assembly seem to be building some sturdy bridges with their modding community. The relationship between developer and modders hasn’t always been the strongest (especially during the Empire: Total War era), but it now looks like some rather positive moves are being made.

A modding kit for , dubbed the ‘’ is available for all to download and play around with, and the game should now have full integration with Steam’s ‘Workshop’ area.

“Getting to this point, where we have a set of tools and a strong starting point for a brand new, improved relationship with the Total War modding community, has taken a lot of hard work, blood and sweat from many people here at the studio,” the Creative Assembly team writes in a forum post on the subject.

And here’s what you can expect to find inside the Assembly Kit:

  • DAVe database tool – used for editing database entries
  • Unit Editor – for changing the look for units
  • Tooldatabuilder – for unpacking data
  • Campaign map reprocessing
  • Max export scripts for models
  • Example Max files for most model types
  • BoB processing tool, also capable of building mod packs
  • Documentation

To download it, have Total War: Shogun 2 installed, click to your Steam library, then select “tools” in the drop down box and find the Assembly Kit to install.
