EA cancels NBA Live 13
EA Sports has no trouble producing an excellent football or NHL title, but for the last couple of years its been struggling with the concept of a decent basketball game. NBA Elite 11 was unceremoniously cancelled back in 2010, when a demo of that title was released in a somewhat broken and embarrassing state.
History is now repeating itself, with an announcement today from EA stating that NBA Live 13 (a title that was supposed to be EA’s basketball title comeback) has been cancelled.
“After a lot of consideration, we have made the decision to not launch NBA LIVE 13,” reads a statement from Andrew Wilson, the executive vice president of EA Sports.
“Making great games is not easy, and we’re just not there yet on NBA LIVE 13. Having continued to look at the game over the past few days, it’s clear that we won’t be ready in October. And rather than launch midway through the season, we’re going to sit out the full year and stay focused on making next year’s game great.”
It’s an extremely curious situation for EA to find themselves in, and one which once again gives 2K’s NBA series a free shot at the videogame basketball marketplace.
