Arrested Bohemia devs “did not enter military area”

Last week a story broke that two developers from developer Bohemia Interactive were arrested in Greece for spying and today Bohemia has issued a statement to clarify the situaton.

According to Bohemia the two developers, friendsĀ  Ivan Buchta and Martin Pezlar did not enter into a military zone and were in Greece as tourists taking pictures and video of public areas like any normal person on holiday. Where the problem may have arose was from a video they were taking near the airport on a public road in which there were hangars in the background.

Martin and Ivan, currently being detained in Mytilene issued a message to their friends and family.

“The conditions are tough, but the people we meet treat us fairly and correctly. It is all a completely absurd misunderstanding that will certainly be quickly explained. We mainly think of you, our families; you have to stay calm and not to worry about us. We hope we will meet soon.”

The arrests look like a complete mix-up where two tourists have been pulled aside by some over-eager officials. The statement from Bohemia doesn’t clarify what charges they were arrested on but it sounds like they just got a little too close to a restricted area and the authorities decided to nab them.
