Microsoft changes logo, mind blown
Turns out it doesn’t take much to blow my mind. A simple logo change from one of the world’s biggest companies and my brain has ended up as a red/pink splodge spread messily across the wall of my ‘office’.
Despite the risk of mass head explosions, Microsoft has decided to change its logo and include the unmistakable Windows squares. The previous logo had stood for 25 years.
To make it obvious: the top logo is new, the bottom logo is old. It’s already present on the Microsoft website. Previous logos have been:

1975 - 1979

1980 - 1981

1982 - 1986

1987 - 2012
Coinciding with the release of Windows 8 later this year, the new logo is sharper and… more involved with 90 degree angles. Makes sense, I suppose, given the style of the company’s Metro OS that’ll be appearing on Windows 8 tablets, phones and PCs.
Anyway, big question: do I like it? Yes, it’s better than the old one. That was shit.

heh on the last line.
The new logo is better but I wonder how much they paid for it. Very clever how they turned the wave of colours into squares.
what you mean how much they paid for it? surely the cost of a new logo would be insignificant for a company as large as microsoft? or do you mean something other than money?
I was talking about the monetary cost. Some of these logo redesigns cost a fortune. The London 2012 Olympic logo cost £400,000. I don’t think I have ever seen one that was money well spent.
Bring back the 70′s logo!
It’s not exactly logo design of the year is it.
As a graphic designer, I have to say that I hate it. The typeface is boring and the symbol is just as bad. I suspect they were trying to match the “tile” feeling of Win8′s upcoming Metro system, meh… just meh. They could’ve varied the sizes of the boxes or something.
I’ve had more Blue screen of deaths on my Windows 7 PC than all previous PC’s we have owned put together…. nuf said
