Due in 2013, Techland’s Dead Island Riptide will be more of a sideways step than a sequel. In fact, forget all about sequels. The developers have stated that Riptide is “not a sequel”. It’s more of a spin-off, sending the same four playable characters from the first game to a brand new island and forcing them to fight zombies all over again.

In fact, Techland says you can even import the character you used in Dead Island to Riptide. A new weather system will keep you on your toes (it can cause destructive flooding) and if you weren’t too pleased at how gun-heavy the end of the original game became, the good news is that Riptide claims to be returning to more of a melee focus.

Dead Island Riptide will come to PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 in 2013.
