XBLA version of Minecraft builds audience of 3 million

The Xbox Live Arcade release of Minecraft continues to be rather popular. According to original creator Markus ‘Notch’ Persson (who seems to have heard it from Microsoft) it has now cruised past 3 million sales. Not necessarily a huge surprise, given that the game sold 400,000 copies within 24 hours and went on to sell 1 million in five days.

Since so many people now own a copy, that means there’ll be plenty of people taking advantage of the free ‘skins’ offer to tie-in with Microsoft’s Summer of Arcade promotion. Themed skins of all the titles in the ‘season’ (Deadlight, Wreckateer et al) are available to download for Minecraft by going to the ‘Summer of Arcade’ promo tab on your Xbox Live dashboard and locating the relevant option.
