Valve to release Steam on Linux

17 Jul 2012 by John Robertson
Valve to release Steam on Linux

has confirmed plans to launch their digital distribution platform on , via the Ubuntu distribution.

The project has been dubbed Steam’d Penguins and has supposedly been in development since last year, with Left 4 Dead 2 to be the first game that will be ported across to work on Linux. A beta version of Steam’d Penguins is due to launch prior to the service coming into full release mode (we still don’t know when that is).

Whether or not this will push developers to include Linux support for their future releases remains to be seen.
