Dead Space 3: Co-op and giant monsters confirmed

EA today confirmed that Dead Space 3 will include co-op gameplay. Co-op has been rumoured for a couple of weeks, but this is the first time the publisher has confirmed its existence.

Two player co-op features new character John Carver, who is joined by series protagonist Isaac Clarke. During a live gameplay demo, John takes the red suit and Isaac the green/blue – see pic below.

The five minute-ish live demo showed the return of the necromorphs (shocking), a giant monster (shocking), and the confirmation that the game will take place on the previously rumoured planet of ice.

In truth, the gameplay looked extremely action heavy, as opposed to the slower, steadier pace that allows horror to thrive as we’ve seen in previous games. It remains to be seen whether EA are at all attempting to incorporate horror elements, given that such a thing is difficult to achieve in co-op.

Dead Space 3 is due February 2013.

We’ll have more on Dead Space 3 as E3 2012 continues.
