Remote locations: download Steam games at a distance

16 May 2012  by   Paul Younger

You know how it is, you’re trapped in a shopping center with a burning desire to start downloading the game you just bought on Steam. Or you’re stuck on the train thinking “hmm, I do wish I could re-download that game so it’s ready to play when I get home.”
Even if neither of those situations have occurred to you, you still might benefit from Steam’s new remote download feature. Essentially, if your main PC is logged in to your Steam account it’s now possible to log in to your games list through the web or mobile devices and start downloading at a distance.
A brief FAQ about the feature and how to operate it can be read here.
Will Gabe Newell rest before every PC owner on the planet is simultaneously downloading a game on Steam regardless of timezone or location? My guess is no.
