Scores of Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium staff laid off

29 Mar 2012  by   Paul Younger

THQ has announced today that 79 employees from Vigil Games and 39 staff from Relic Entertainment have been laid off, as a direct consequence of Warhammer 40k: Dark Millennium no longer being developed as an MMO. The title will still exist, but as a single player game with scaled back multiplayer features.
When THQ’s serious financial problems were revealed in February, the company made no secret of the fact that it was looking for an investor to provide capital for Dark Millennium. That search has failed, and the publisher no longer has the funds to complete the title as an MMO.
“We believe the right direction for us is to shift the title from an MMO to a premium experience with single and multiplayer gameplay,” says THQ CEO Brian Farrell.
Further details, platforms (as an MMO Dark Millennium was PC only, so that will likely change) and a projected release window are promised at a later date.
