Personal data ‘not accessed’ in hack, says Square

It emerged yesterday that Square Enix servers containing details relating to upwards of 1.8 million people had been compromised by a hacking attempt. The company was quick to state that no credit card data was housed in the affected servers, but that personal details such as names and addresses were.
However, Square has now issued a statement which reads “we have determined that user login credentials were not accessed” and goes on to say “we have not found evidence that the individual was able to access any personal information at all”.
Square Enix member services remain down while the company conducts a broader investigation. In addition, the incident has been reported to the Japanese government.
