Tumbling blocks: Lego Universe to close in 2012

Sad news has been announced by developers NetDevil regarding Lego Universe. The MMO will end in January 2012, because it simply isn’t making enough money. While players appear to enjoy the free-to-play zones, paying subscribers haven’t materialised in great enough numbers to keep the game going.
“Right now, we have almost 2 million players in Lego Universe” NetDevil’s Jesper Vilstrup says, “and we get extremely positive feedback from players”.
“Unfortunately, we have not been able to build a satisfactory revenue model in our target group, and therefore, have decided to close the game.”
This, naturally, is also bad news for some of the people who’ve worked on the title. Reports suggest that a marketing office in Denmark and Play Well Studios in Colorado will both be closed. Between them, they employ 115 staff.
If you’re one of the 2 million people still playing Lego Universe, you’d better prepare to afix your last block.
