Obsidian’s future is ‘more RPGs’ on in-house engine
For those wondering what’s next for Obsidian after concluding work on Fallout: New Vegas, recent events provide a few clues.
Today, Obsidian’s Chris Avellone has stated that the company’s future is “more RPGs with our own engine… finally”, but this is just the latest detail in a succession of hints towards the developers’ next project.
Last week it was revealed that Obsidian is working on an unnanounced project for “a leading animation franchise”, and back in May the company was hiring for “a 2D character animator to work on a highly stylized, high profile role playing game”.
Finally, Feargus Urquhart has stated (earlier this year) that the team is working on a license that they couldn’t turn down.
Whether all these details concern exactly the same project is unknown at this stage, but it potentially bodes well for a stylised 2D RPG based on a popular animation series.
