Smithsonian reveals titles for ‘Art of Video Games’ exhibition5 May 2011
Last February the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington DC launched a vote, asking which games should be included in an exhibition entitled ‘The Art of Video Games.’ Those results are now in.
It wasn’t a completely open vote, as the original 240 games in each category had been preselected. This means you may not agree with some of the choices and, yes, certain key games have been unfortunately overlooked. However, it’s great to see the Smithsonian recognising the medium.
The full list of the eighty games that will appear in the exhibition can be read in this PDF.
In addition, five games (Pac-Man, Super Mario Brothers, The Secret of Monkey Island, Myst and World of Warcraft) will be playable at the event.
‘The Art of Video Games’ will begin next year and run from 16 March 2012 to 30 September 2012. Further details can be found on the Smithsonian website.
