Download only: the vogue way to release a game nowadays.  Once upon a time the term referred to small, quaint games with functionality barely beyond that of a tech demo or test project.  It then evolved to fully fledged (albeit small scale) games with a focus on fun over technology – usually with a strong identity of ‘indie’ about them. 
Most recently however, the all-digitally release method has been dominated by the melancholy and the ‘getting-back-to-retro’; from inspired originals such as Braid and Limbo, to the unrelenting assault on the senses (and reflexes) typified by the likes of Super Meat Boy and Pac-Man C.E .
