World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Fastest Seller
World of Warcraft: Cataclysm is the fastest selling PC game ever, clocking up a staggering 3.3 million first day sales. This figure includes the digital pre-sales and box pre-orders.
Launched worldwide on 7th December with 10,000 shops, eager to snap up their share of sales, opening their doors at midnight. Blizzard dispatched developers to various official launch events in the US, Canada, UK, France, Germany, Russia, Sweden, the Netherlands, Spain and the region of Taiwan joined by around 15,000 fans.,
The sales figure breaks the previous which as it happens was the last World of Warcraft expansion, Wrath of the Lich King which reached 2.8 million first day sales.
Blizzard, well used to smashing sales figures, recently claimed the fastest selling strategy game ever with first day sales of over 1 million of Starcraft: Wings of Liberty back in August of this year making it, at the time, the best PC seller of the year.
Cataclysm is the thrid expansion for WoW:
“We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content.”
3.3 Million sales recorded failed to get Cataclysm officially to the top of the charts this week, however that doesn’t include its digital sales.
