Minecraft man using $3.8mil earnings to form own studio30 Sep 2010
One-man money making machine, Markus Persson, creator of the PC downloadable title Minecraft has said that he plans to use his wealth to form his own studio. This comes after he rejected job offers from Bungie and Valve.
Persson’s Minecraft, which is currently still in Aplha phase has sold 279,435 copies so far at €9.95 a time. At today’s exchange rate this equals £2,397,098 or $3,796,760. The stats are simply mind-boggling and are increasing every second, click here to see how many downloads the game has currently achieved.
“It’s a good thing I didn’t know how much work setting up a company would be when I started doing it,” said Persson, on his personal blog.
“Most my time these days is taken up by meetings and lawyers, accountants, banks, potential partners, potential employees, and the occasional interview.
“All this non-development work will result in a much nicer working environment, with talented people helping out with development, an actual office, and a much better way to deal with support issues, bug reports and feature requests.
“The status right now is that we’re up to four people confirmed, and we’re talking to several people,” he said.
“We almost got an office, but [the estate agents] wanted us [to sign a three year lease], which seems a bit like a gamble for a startup. So we’re still looking for an office.”
Persson, along with Minecraft have seen a lot of press coverage recently after it was revealed that the game was making up to $350,000 a day. The description for Minecraft on the game’s website reads: ‘Minecraft is a game about placing blocks while running from skeletons. Or something like that…’ See for yourself what that means here.
