Mark Jacobs Bids Farewell

With news that Mark Jacobs has now left EA and Mythic, he’s taken time out to bid farewell on his blog.This week saw EA merge Mythic and Bioware into a single studio and with this also came news that Mythic’s Mark Jacobs has now left EA and Mythic.

Rough Champions Online Open Beta Date

Cryptic now have a planned date for when the open Beta will begin for their superhero MMORPG Champions Online.Following a recent visit to Cryptic Studios offices, Champions Online Daily News reports that the September release date looks concrete despite the fact there is still a lot to be done to iron out bugs.The update also mentiones that a mid August open Beta test has been pencilled in by Cryptic for the middle of August.

Tropico 3 Beta Sign-Ups Begin

Kalypso Media has announced that the closed beta sign-ups for Tropico 3 have opened.The beta testers chosen, it seems, will be able to try out the new features including secret police, oil industry, all sorts of new edicts, and a lot more.You can sign-up for the beta of the island-running strategy title here.

Gearbox Confirms War Hero Titles

Gearbox Software has confirmed that it is working on a franchise titled “War Hero.”Speaking to Shacknews, Gearbox president Randy Pitchford said that the four War Hero trademarks that were recently filed – World War II Hero, War Hero, Brothers in Arms War Hero, and Modern War Hero – reveal “a bit about [Gearbox's] interests in the development of another original intellectual property.”Pitchford confirmed that the franchise is “something down the road,” but added that Gearbox hasn’t “talked to any potential partners.””So we’re certainly not ready to talk about it publicly at the moment.”Gearbox is currently known to be working on RPG shooter Borderlands (of which we have a preview and an interview) as well as Aliens: Colonial Marines.

The latest update for Nexon’s Combat Arms is now available to download.The update adds a new class to the game, the Specialist, as well as a brand new map, Power Surge.Set in an industrial pumping station, Power Surge supports four game modes: Elimination, One Man Army, Capture the Flag and Spy Hunt.
