Empire: Total War Major Patch This Week
The new Empire: Total War patch has gone into beta community testing and should be out this week.According to a post on the Yuku Total War forums made by a Creative Assembly team member, the main purpose of the patch is “to fix the AI aggression issues, remove the vast majority of game breaking crashes, and tweak the unit behaviour whilst laying groundwork for naval invasions.”The patch includes “over 70 bug fixes [...] plus a tonne of balance and feature tweaks.”We really, really liked Empire: Total War on release, and highly recommend it.

Nintendo’s Wii Fit has once again topped the UK all-format sales chart.The phenomenally successful fitness game shows no sign of slowing down as it fought off the EA onslaught from the Godfather II and FIFA ’09.
Ubisoft Working On New Driver Title?
Ubisoft has filed a trademark registration for “Driver: The Recruit.”Superannuation spotted the registration (thanks, Joystiq) which, we suspect, could be the Driver game that appeared to be in production following a BBC report last year.No word yet on anything other than the name, but we’ll update you when we learn more.
Fallout 3 DLC Getting Retail Release
Fallout 3′s 360 and PC DLC packs, Operation: Anchorage and The Pitt, may be coming to retail next month.Electronic Theatre reports that the retail release will be titled “Fallout 3 Downloadable Content: The Pitt and Operation Anchorage,” and will be hitting PC and Xbox 360, so the DLC is still unavailable for PS3 users.
BBC iPlayer Works With 360
A recent update to the BBC iPlayer means that it can now stream through PC to the Xbox 360.
Strong Bad Game Collector’s Edition Available For Pre-Order
Telltale Games have opened up pre-orders for the collector’s edition of Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People.The DVD is likened to a TV box set, with the disc contained all five episodes of the game’s first season, along with a variety of extras.Put it into your computer and you’ve got the games, an “MP3 soundtrack sampler,” and some desktop wallpapers.
Champions Online Date Confirmed
Atari will announce the release date for Champions Online in Western territories on 8 May.The superhero MMO, being developed with the assistance of industry legend Bill Roper, will be released for PC in both the US and Europe sometime this summer.Update: The release date announcement embargo was broken so we can now confirm the game will be released on July 14th.We’ll be there, with our capes blowing stylishly in the wind.
Guild Wars Passes Six Million Sold
NCSoft and ArenaNet have announced that their online RPG Guild Wars has now passed six million units sold.Launched in 2005, the action RPG’s free to play model has been proving a success for ArenaNet and NCSoft as the game reaches its fourth anniversary.
Left 4 Dead Survival Pack Patched
Valve patched Left 4 Dead last night, largely fixing issues some users were having with the Survival mode.The full list of changes to the Survival pack is as follows:Darkened the Lighthouse background movie and increased the contrast with the user interface elements.Chapter selection is now available when creating a Survival lobby.Single player coop now works correctly after playing Survival online.The correct game mode will be set when playing back a demo.Changed holdout server spew to be development only.Stats are no longer updated while viewing a demo.Correctly update the leaderboard based on the player’s personal time, not the team best timeShow the player’s best time in the scoreboard.Removed Survival exploits from The Terminal, Last Stand, The Crane, The Boathouse and The Warehouse.Fixed tanks sometimes not spawning after 15-20 minutes.The patch should auto-apply on connecting to Steam.
Star Trek DAC Coming To PC
Paramount Digital Entertainment have announced that Star Trek D.A.C., the game tie-in to the forthcoming Star Trek movie, will also be released on PC.The game features a variety of ships and lets up to 12 players take part in battles between Starfleet and the Romulan Empire in Team Deathmatch, Assault, and Conquest modes.
Battlefield 1943 Priced, More Accurately Dated
EA and DICE today announced the date and price point for Battlefield 1943.The game, a more arcade-centric update of Battlefield 1942, supports 24 players across three classic maps from Battlefield 1942 – Iwo Jima, Wake Island, and Guadalcanal – all of which have been updated with the new Frostbite engine to add destructible scenery.”We want to offer gamers the most accessible online shooter experience and the best value found in any premium download title with Battlefield 1943,” said Gordon Van Dyke, BF1943′s producer.The download-only title will be up on Xbox Live and the PlayStation network sometime in June, for $15 USD.
Diablo and Mythos Veterans Announce Torchlight
Runic Games has today announced its forthcoming action-MMO, titled Torchlight.Little is known about the game at this stage, save that it’s described as an “adventure-themed Action-MMORPG.” Players will set out from the titular town of Torchlight into the nearby mountains, in search of a magical ore that “imbues their equipment with power, yet imperils their very existence.”We can apparently expect “a simple and intuitive interface, fast and furious action, and a colorful and compelling game world.”There’s reason to be excited, though, as Runic Games is developing it, and its team has quite a pedigree.
Dragon Age Exec Producer Moves To Disney
BioWare has revealed Dan Tudge, the executive producer of forthcoming title Dragon Age: Origins, has moved to Disney Interactive Studios.Specifically, Tudge is going to work as vice president and general manager of Disney subsidiary, Propaganda Games, best known for the most recent Turok game.BioWare told Gamasutra that Tudge’s replacement on Dragon Age will be Mark Darrah, who has previously worked for the company on the original Baldur’s Gate, in addition to Neverwinter Nights and the more recent Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood.
NCsoft Adds MMO Titles To Steam
NCsoft has teamed up with Valve to make a number of leading PC MMO titles available via Steam.
